This little book is a simple and short allegorical tale, a modern-day parable of a little donkey named Dolores. This autobiographical tale depicts the events the author has faced and lived through. From the beginning, Dolores' journey takes her through a lot of twisting paths, turns, and detours. Along the way there are a lot of losses of friends, school, culture, and language as a child. Then as an adult she loses her family after a divorce, work, her savings, and possessions. Through circumstances and lack of understanding by well-meaning adults, Dolores' is not given the opportunity to grieve and cry over each loss. Then Dolores is hit with the hardest loss of all, the death of her child. Dolores' tries to deal with her grief, but she is unaware that the unaddressed grief from previous losses has created emotional baggage in her soul and these bags are the root cause of physical pain. After the death of her daughter, Dolores' is led through more twisting paths and detours until she finally ends up in a "magical" forest where she meets angels who help her deal with all her unaddressed grief. With the help of these angels, Dolores' digs into her bags filled with emotional baggage and is given the chance to look over her life, cry over each loss, and discover treasures hidden deep in her bags. She also discovers that a Good and loving God gave her all the characteristics she needed to face everything in her journey and that her courage and strength, also knitted into her being by her Creator, helped her decision to intentionally develop a strong relationship with Him. This was Dolores' saving grace.
