Have you ever met someone and wondered where they might be from? Hi, I'm Tolu! I play steelpan, I love the saxophone, and I like art. Dad always says I am his curious Caribbean Canadian girl and I'm super excited to go to my new school tomorrow! Mom says there are many kids that don't look like me.
I think that's cool, but I'm a little nervous about it too.
Author's Note:
What makes Canada strong is its diversity, but we often don't take the time to truly explore it. Educational and fun, 'Where are you from?' tells the story of a girl who discovers that there is beauty and strength in being culturally different in Canada.
Candice Jones is a Caribbean Canadian Gospel Jazz saxophonist, artist, and author who loves to play music with others, travel and meet new people from all walks of life. She was born and raised in Montreal, Qc, Canada into a Trinidadian home, full of music, fried bakes, salt-fish, and her personal favourite-Sorrel.
Candice is an amazingly versatile person who will try her best to step up to any challenge that life throws at her. Her constant pursuit for creativity allows for her to heal and flourish from within. By taking the plunge to write her first book, she hopes that her author journey will inspire more black Canadians to write and publish books of their own. We must write our own stories.
