Surviving Sybil is based upon true events. The names of certain characters and locations - and the timing of certain events - have been changed to protect innocent parties from retaliation. Surviving Sybil tells the story of the author, a middle-aged white woman on an upward career path at the Internal Revenue Service until she gets a new boss - a female manager - who apparently has other ideas about the future of this particular employee.
Surviving Sybil also describes a marriage shaken by the discriminatory events affecting the wife at work - but strengthened by the effective teamwork developed as this couple joined forces to achieve ultimate justice. The action is fast-paced and the readers will find themselves rooting for the under dog in this inspirational tale of work and family.
The author details the numerous incidents of verbal abuse and disparate treatment she received while working for a superior she could never satisfy. Fortunately, many of those discriminatory actions were witnessed by the author's own employees - and her fellow IRS managers. After two emotionally-charged years of enduring a hostile work environment and struggling - without success - to satisfy her new boss, the author finally decides to take the appropriate legal action through the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission.
