Growing up there was a common term, "What happens in this house, stays in this house."
Sexual abuse, was one of those secrets that we kept within the family unit that no one else could know about. April decided to break that cycle. After the tickles that her uncle gave her ended as molestation and sexual assault, April decides to use her voice. Although she was afraid, she spoke up and received the help she needed. Now April is empowering other children to use their voice. Are you a parent who has been sexual abused as a child? Do you fear that the same thing may happen to your own child? Has your child been sexually abused? Do you want to educate and help end the cycle of sexual abuse in the family? April Finds her voice is for you and your child. This book allowed April to tell her story and give other children permission to do the same.
April goes out into the schools to tell her story about how her uncle began tickling her, but ended up sexually assaulting her. April shares with a fourth grade class how she finally told her mother what was happening her. Now April shares her story and allows other kids to open up and share their story as well, bringing awareness to the subject.
